IBM strategic agreement

Cemex has signed a 10-year service contract with IBM, which is expected to produce US$1 billion in cost savings. IBM will provide the cement manufacturer with IT support and business consultant services. The contract includes IT maintenance, development, business processes, finance and accounting. The contract is expected to increase efficiency and improve customer services.

“This agreement will bring Cemex the flexibility to face the new challenges in the building materials industry. IBM’s state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, business processes and applications will help Cemex achieve its goals of becoming more competitive. We see our strategic relationship with Cemex as a powerful example of building a smarter planet,” commented Bruno Di Leo, Senior Vice President of Sales and Distribution for IBM.

Advanced business platform

Cemex also recently announced the integration of an advanced business platform on SAP across its operations in more than 50 countries. The platform aims to improve the efficiency of the company’s internal processes through the use of scalable and flexible technology. The global integration of the cutting-edge platform was supported by Neoris, Cemex’s global business and IT consulting firm.

“This new platform provides real-time data from all critical processes and functions, helping us to integrate our core cement, ready-mix and aggregates businesses into a single solution that serves our customers with greater speed, precision, and quality,” stated Cemex CEO Lorenzo H. Zambrano.
