Lafarge North America to build new cement storage facility and terminal

Lafarge North America, Inc. is investing in a new cement storage facility and terminal in North Dakota. The 30 000 t capacity terminal will be built on a new rail spur on the east side of Williston. The East Valley Rail project is being developed by New Frontier LLC.

The storage facility will help Lafarge to meet rising demand in the Dakotas, enabling it to increase efficiency and strengthen its network of terminals in the region. Lafarge cement is used for local infrastructure projects and supports the oil and gas industry through soil stabilisation for roads and extraction sites.

The new facility will comprise a concrete dome to contain the cement and ensure environmental protection.

“This facility allows Lafarge to support the Dakotas in a sustainable manner in terms of permanent solution and one that relieves truck traffic from the heavily trafficked Highway 2. Cement is the binder in concrete, which is critical for industrial and residential economic development in the Dakotas. With this upgrade we are proud to help build better cities,” said Roy Sander, General Manager – Lafarge Dakotas.
