Sale of famous quarry is now closed

The sale of Rubislaw Quarry, which is said to be the largest man-made hole in Europe has come to a close.
The granite quarry, which is known as “the hole Aberdeen came out of” is 466 ft. deep x 394 ft. wide. An estimated 6 million t of granite was excavated from it over a 200-year period before its closure in 1971, giving Aberdeen the title of the Granite City.
Last month, for the first time in 150 years, the famous quarry went on sale on the open market. Chartered surveyors AB Robb Ltd said it has been "inundated" with inquiries since the £30 000-valued quarry came onto the market. An announcement on the successful bid is awaited.
It has been suggested that the site, which is currently filled with water, could be used as an outdoor leisure facility.
