Hanson sells off aggregate and asphalt business in Scotland

Hanson UK, a division of HeidelbergCement, has just announced the sale of its aggregate and asphalt operations in Scotland to Tillicoultry Quarries Limited of Fife, Scotland. The plants involved are Clydebridge asphalt plant, Tama Loup quarry and asphalt plant, including the aggregate reserves at Caldercruix. Mountcastle sand and gravel quarry and the Approach Wood extension have been sold to Angle Park Sand and Gravel Company Ltd, Fife, Scotland.
The sale follows a strategic review of the business unit in Scotland, which concluded that efforts should be concentrated on developing the cement and concrete business. The Scottish concrete operations will be managed within the quarry products north regional structure under an area general manager, who will be appointed in due course. The Stirling office will close, with shippers moving out to the plants and core area staff transferring to the Hanson Cement offices at King George V wharf in Glasgow. The cement distribution operations are unaffected.
