PT Semen Indonesia Tbk has taken advantage of hot flue gases in the cement manufacturing process and turned them into energy.

Indonesia Cement Group is a pioneer in the use of hot exhaust gases into electrical energy through the project Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation (WHRPG).

Semen Padang as a subsidiary of the company has been successful in establishing WHRPG in Indarung V which has a capacity of about 8.3 MW per year and will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions as a contributor of greenhouse gases by 43 000 tpy. The Director of Legal and Human Resources of Cement Indonesia, Gatot Kustyadji, announced the project in a public discussion in the theme of Industrial and Environmental Harmonisation.

"The construction project continues in the Tuban plant with a capacity of approximately 30.6 MW, and will save operating costs of around Rp 120 billion per year and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 122 000 tons per year. WHRPG project implementation will be applied for the entire plant range in the Indonesian Cement Group, which has the potential to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 300 000 tpy” added Gatot Kustyadji.
