Cemex UK has contributed to the construction of 25 000 new homes over the last 12 months

Cemex has provided an overview of the UK infrastructure projects it has been involved in recently. These range from participation in the construction of an airport terminal in London to the development of an onshore gas plant in Scotland’s Shetland Islands.

• Cemex UK’s products and building solutions have enabled 1600 miles of new road and contributed to 25 000 new homes over the last 12 months.
• The company has participated in the construction of the Lee Tunnel, which will modernise London’s sewage system. The tunnel, which will be the deepest in London, will prevent 16 million tpa of sewage flowing into the river Lee. Cemex provided a tailor-made specialty ready-mix concrete for the project. This was poured over 29 uninterrupted days – the longest continual slip form pour in Europe to date.
• Cemex also provided a specialty ready-mix concrete for the new Terminal 2 at Heathrow International Airport, London. The concrete will help to lower the building’s carbon footprint and reduce the risk of early age thermal cracking, thereby lengthening its overall lifespan.
• The group took part in the construction of a multimillion dollar onshore gas plant in the Shetland Islands. A specially designed mobile plant was erected onsite in order to mitigate the impact of poor weather conditions and to source the necessary raw materials by road, rail and sea to the remote location.
