More than 1500 materials innovators and investors, researchers, academics, as well as representatives from industry and government, will come together for Innovate UK’s Materials Research Exchange, next week (23 – 24 April 2024).

The conference will dive into the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in nanotechnology, biomaterials, textiles, polymers, metals and glass, in a series of exciting cross-cutting presentations and thought-provoking panel discussions.

New to 2024 is the inclusion of four flagship events:

  • Circular Critical Materials Conference: A series of talks delving into the Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains Programme and the UK’s Critical Minerals Strategy.
  • Reimagining Materials and Manufacturing Showcase: A look at the tech that will help the UK become a world-class destination of choice for advanced low-carbon manufacturing, as set out in the Materials and Manufacturing Vision 2050 report.
  • GRIPS: The Global Research and Innovation in Plastics Sustainability conference, exploring the intersection of materials science with sustainability and innovation in plastics.
  • Investor Showcase: A spotlight for investors on materials innovators from cutting-edge projects from universities and established companies.

Dr Cathryn Hickey, Chief Executive of the newly launched AMRICC Centre, the only pilot-scale ceramic development facility in the UK, will talk on the groundbreaking facility and delivering a keynote on industrial leadership, including materials, adoption and commercialisation.

Prof Jan-Theodoor Janssen, Chief Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory, will be delivering a keynote on Materials Metrology Strategy: Impact from Science. And Dr Lucy Smith, Head of Transformation at the Materials Processing Institute, will be discussing transformative incubator and accelerator to support innovation adoption.

Robert Quarshie, Director of Technologies & Healthy Living and Materials lead at Innovate UK Business Connect, says, “Marking our tenth anniversary, MRE 2024 will be bigger and better than ever before. The event is a fantastic opportunity to network with the entire UK materials ecosystem, and a critical gateway for connecting delegates with potential partners and investors.”

“The conference, which is just part of what MRE 2024 has to offer, will also feature talks from Innovate UK, EPSRC, and the Royce Institute. It’s guaranteed to be extremely insightful and we can’t wait to see you there.”
