Accumulated cement sales to October improved in Lanzarote while consumption declined in Spain

According to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen, domestic cement consumption reached approximately 1.04 million t in October. This is 5% higher than in October 2013. However, consumption in the first ten months of the year declined by 0.5% y/y to around 9.12 million t.
Canary Islands
Figures from the Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) indicate that cement sales in the Canary Islands totalled 51 062 t in October 2014. This is an increase on September 2014, when sales came in at 39 335 t. On an accumulated basis, sales reached 394 202 t in January – October 2014.
In Lanzarote, around 37 792 t of cement was sold in the first ten months of this year, up 11.4% on the corresponding period in 2013. In October alone, sales were down slightly y/y, falling from 4339 t in October 2013 to 4330 t in October 2014, a drop of 0.2% y/y. However sales were higher than in September 2014, when 3099 t of cement was dispatched.
