In this section Paul Maxwell-Cook will be commenting each month on a different geographic region. This month's feature will focus on Indonesia. As many countries in the Eurozone struggle to tackle overwhelming debt problems, they must stand in awe of China, India and Indonesia, the only members of the G20 to have recorded positive growth during the global economic crisis. More remarkable is that the economy of Indonesia, a country spread across 17 500 islands, with a population of over 220 million, and described by commentators as ‘Asia’s latest emerging star’, grew at the fastest rate in over a year during the first quarter of this year as low interest rates boosted consumer spending and exports and investments recovered. Indonesia still faces many challenges. What are they and how is President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his government dealing with them? What’s the latest news on the country’s cement industry? Find out by reading Paul’s feature in the July 2010 Regional Insight, which will only be available to paid subscribers. Click here to sign in.
